September General Meeting 2017   18/09/2017

Cumann na mBunscol held its September General Meeting in the Croke Park Hotel on Saturday last September 16th. There was a large attendance.

Cathaoirleach Bernadette Ryan presided over the meeting and thanked the delegates who had travelled from all parts of the country.

Gerry O Meara gave a very thorough and concise account of the 2017 INTO Mini Sevens series. He thanked the sponsors INTO, the staff in Croke Park led by Gearóid O Maolmhichil, the Dublin teachers who act as Team Managers and goalpost helpers and all the Cumann na mBunscol officers who help each Sunday. The Cathaoirleach thanked Gerry for his efficiency and unfailing courtesy in carrying out a very onerous task.

An officer of each of the four provincial units reported on activities and initiatives in the provinces while Cathaoirleach Bernadette Ryan spoke on Child Protection and the necessity for all officers and teachers dealing with teams to comply strictly with Garda Vetting regulations. She reminded delegates that retired teachers who are active in Cumann na mBunscol must also have up to date Garda Vetting.

Seamus Lawless, a lecturer in IT from Trinity College,  and Stephen Mone of Cumann na mBunscol Ard Mhacha both made presentations on the topic of 'Social Media.. its uses in promoting Cumann na mBunscol'. This module was very well received. PRO Joe Lyons distributed a list of Media contacts and a list of over 20 Cumann na mBunscol units already active on Twitter.

Gary Farrell of An Coiste Náisiúnta spoke on the 2018 Cornmarket Awards.  The Awards Banquet takes place on Friday March 8th 2018.  Further details will be posted on this website in the very near future. It is hoped that the number of entries for these Awards will continue to grow in 2018.

AGM 2018 will be in the Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny on Saturday March 9th and Jim Fennelly is liaising with the hotel.

Finally, all involved with Cumann na mBunscol pass on their deepest sympathies to Tadhg Kenny on the death of his wife Renee. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a hanam.
