A new name on the Girls Football trophy in Limerick   15/11/2017

It has been a fantastic first term both on and off the pitch for Mahoonagh National School, in West Limerick  but the cherry on the cake was laid by our all conquering Girls Football Team on Monday last when they captured the Division 1 County Football Championship, beating East Limerick champions Scoil an Spioraid Naomh of Roxborough in a pulsating semi final, and later defeated the City champions Milford NS in a grulelingly tough title decider. It was end to end stuff and a mile a minute, but in the end the sheer determination, work ethic and physical fitness of our girls saw us winners by two goals, 5-3 to 3-3. Captain Lucy O'Brien accepted the Celtic Image County Championship Division 1 Shield from Chairman Brother James Dormer. This is a fantastic achievement for this group of girls and the school, and indeed for their coaches Noel Guina and Ms. Kennedy, winning West and County Division 1 Titles. The girls had captured the West Championship before the mid-term break by defeating Dromcollogher, Foynes and Broadford before overcoming Killoughteen NS in the West Final. It is also a testament to the work being done in the local club, and all of this is of great benefit to the girls. 18 girls played Schools Football this year and every one of them saw game time on the pitch. A massive well done to all involved.
